An Interview with Liva Sturmane on the content and functions of the Digital Platform

One of the main components of the iCoDaCo 2024-2027 project is the development of the world's first open-source digital platform featuring multimedia content created through artistic research. The tecnical partner, Creativity Lab (Latvia), specialises in digital and open innovation methodologies. It leads the development of the platform prototype, ensuring its usability, sustainability adn adaptability.

We spoke with Līva Stūrmane, the co-founder and director of Creativity Lab, about the platform´s content and functionality.

How would you describe the purpose of the platform?

The iCoDaCo digital platform is an open-access space designed to support contemporary dance through knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and visibility. It connects artists, educators, students, and audiences while making contemporary dance more accessible to the wider public.

The platform aims to become both a community hub and a digital archive for contemporary dance practices, artistic processes, and educational resources.

How is the content being created?

The content is developed collaboratively by artists, partner organisations, researchers, and contributors within the iCoDaCo network.

Through workshops, hackathons, and user-testing sessions, the project explores what kinds of dance knowledge are currently missing online and how they can be shared in accessible and engaging ways.

The platform includes text, video, audio, images, rehearsal documentation, artistic reflections, interviews, and educational materials.

How can people use the platform and what functions does it have?

Most of the platform will be freely accessible without registration. Users will be able to browse content, discover artists, and explore contemporary dance resources.

Registered users may also create profiles, save materials, contribute content, communicate with others, and participate more actively in the community.

The platform is designed to be intuitive, welcoming, and accessible for both professionals and non-professionals.

What happens with the platform and its contents after iCoDaCo 2024–2027?

The platform is intended as a long-term initiative that will continue developing beyond the official project period. The consortium has made a long term agreement with the German National Dance archive and this will ensure sustainability.

The long-term vision is to establish a lasting international hub for contemporary dance knowledge, collaboration, and artistic exchange.
