Contemporary Dance Solo Show “Shards”

  • Gertrude’s Street Theatre Riga Latvia (map)

How often do we fail to say what we truly think, suppress emotions deemed “negative,” or remain silent in the face of injustice? When enough of these moments accumulate and we finally lash out at someone, it feels like: “That wasn’t me — I’m not like that.”

By stockpiling these “snapped reins” and sweeping the scattered shards under the carpet, we build a house within ourselves where it is no longer possible to take a single step without getting hurt.

Drawing inspiration from personal experience stories and the ideas of the Japanese ceramic restoration practice Kintsugi, choreographer, dancer and Icodaco Latvian collective artist Aigars Larionovs reflects on the role of the “good son” that has been attributed to him since childhood.
