Gwyn Emberton

Gwyn has worked in dance for over 25 years as a choreographer, performer, producer, teacher and dramaturg across the UK and internationally. He is the artistic director and founder of Jones the Dance, an independent dance company in Wales and a creative producer and choreographer at Skånes Dansteater, Sweden.

Gwyn’s works for Jones the Dance (formerly Gwyn Emberton Dance) include My People, Shadow of a Quiet Society and Raft, and Y Dewis (2024), an immersive dance film and live experience that toured rural and coastal towns, all work that is rooted in our shared experiences but explored with the desire to question whose story is presented on stage. For Skånes Dansteater, Gwyn focuses his work towards people who have historically been excluded from mainstream contemporary dance producing projects such as Europe Beyond Access that aim to elevate the voices and work of disabled and Deaf dancers across Europe and creating work with and for Malmö's LGBTQIA+ community. Gwyn is also currently working on a new, multi-dimensional project Autobiography of the Body - that includes a methodology to reclaim our long forgotten histories of our bodies - with iterations in Sweden and Wales coming in Autumn and Spring.

Earlier in his career, Gwyn danced with Scottish Dance Theatre, Matthew Bourne’s Adventures in Motion Pictures, Inbal Pinto and was a founding member of Akram Khan Company and is a co-director of Light, Ladd and Emberton. A collaborator with iCoDaCo since 2014, Gwyn continues to lead and facilitate multiple international projects connecting Wales, Sweden and beyond.
